9:00 am ARRIVE IN WASHINGTON, DC - Meet your Guide
NOON LUNCH ON OWN AT UNION STATION - Enjoy lunch at your own expense at Untion Station with free time to explore the shops. The city's main train station is a classic Beaux-Art design of monumental proportions. Restored to its original grandeur in the 1980's, Union Station features a large food court, a movie theater, shops and kiosks. Be sure to stop at the A. Philip Randolph monument located inside Union Station.

1:30 PM FREDERICK DOUGLASS NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE - Visit this site dedicated to preserving the legacy of the most famous 19th century African American. His life was a testament to the courage and persistence that serves as an inspiration to those who struggle in the cause of liberty and justice. Visitors to the site learn about his efforts to abolish slavery and his struggle for right for all oppressed people. In the visitor center: 17 minute film, Fighter for Freedom, shown on the hour and half hour; exhibits, bookstore, restrooms. Self-guided walking tour of the historic grounds. (Interior house tour not included).

4:00 PM MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. NATIONAL MEMORIAL - The long awaited memorial utilizes landscape elements to powerfully convey three fundamental and recurring themes of Dr. King's life: justice, democracy and hope. The memorial is a quiet and receptive space, yet at the same time, powerful and emotionally evocative, reflecting the spirit of the message Dr. King delivered and the role he played in society.
STOP AT LINCOLN PARK, which celebrates the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia and features Emancipation Proclamation statue and the Mary McLeod Bethune statue.

10:00 AM AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR MUSEUM - In January 1999, the Civil War Memorial Museum opened to the public. Using photographs, documents and start of the art audio visual equipmemt, the museum helps visitors understand the African American's heroic and largely unknown struggle for freedom. See the AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR MEMORIAL. Unveiled on July 18, 1998, the sculpture stands ten feet tall and features uniformed black soldiers and a sailor poised to leave home.

3:30 PM NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART - This is the only meseum in the United States dedicated exclusively to the collection, exhibition and study of the traditional art of sub-Saharan Africa.

Other sites will include BUCKTOWN AND SCOTT'S CHAPEL, & HARRIET TUBMAN historical landmarks. BUCKTOWN GENERAL STORE is where Harriet Tubman displayed her first public act of defiance against slavery. Visit the HARRIET TUBMAN MARKER and the HARRIET TUBMAN UNDERGROUND RAILROAD VISITOR CENTER where you can immerse yourself in Tubman's world through informative, evocative and emotive exhibits.
