The "From Only" and "From Price" reflects the Double Occupancy rate for this tour. “Christmas in Newport” began as a two-week festival that celebrated the noncommercial traditions of the holiday season. It is now in its 50th year. Only clear bulbs illuminate the scenic harbor and wharves and the Victorian splendor of Bellevue Avenue. Day 2

“Christmas in Newport” began as a two-week festival that celebrated the noncommercial traditions of the holiday season. It is now in its 50th year. Only clear bulbs illuminate the scenic harbor and wharves and the Victorian splendor of Bellevue Avenue. The lights are meant to simulate candlelight and recapture the candlelit holidays of bygone days.

Free time for lunch on your own on the harbor front. After lunch meet your local guide for a driving tour. Enjoy the charm of Newport’s historic buildings and restored homes on this narrated tour covering over 150 points of interest. Take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive and the fabulous mansions along tree-lined Bellevue Avenue.

Tour Marble House, built between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was their summer house. Marble House was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent stone palaces. Fireplace mantels on the second floor of Marble House will be decorated by regional garden clubs in a friendly competition.

Following dinner enjoy a re-creation of a Newport Cotillion. Music will be provided by a local musician as you enjoy dancing a waltz and then learn easy-to-follow steps for a contra dance. Hotel for the next two nights in Middletown, RI.

Day 3

Marble House and The Elms --two National Historic Landmarks and icons of the Gilded Age in America--are filled with thousands of poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens and wreaths. A total of 28 decorated Christmas trees reflecting individual room decor anchor many of the magnificent spaces. Dining tables set with period silver and china complete the elegant setting. The windows of each mansion are lit with individual white candles, in keeping with the colonial tradition.

Tour the Elms. The Elms was the summer residence of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Julius Berwind of Philadelphia and New York. The glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver will dazzle you as you tour The Elms magnificent mansion decked out in Yuletide finery. Thousands of poinsettias, spectacular evergreens, fragrant trees, decorated wreaths, fresh flowers and 19th century style ornaments turn The Elms and its grounds into a Christmas wonderland.

Next stop the Newport Playhouse for a luncheon buffet and holiday show.

Tonight, enjoy the sparkling lights, an outdoor & indoor Magical Wonderland. Stroll through softly lit rooms, taking in the ambience of a Gilded Age holiday at the Breakers Mansion. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport’s summer “cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America.
