April 6

Breakfast is included at your hotel this morning. For today's touring, please plan to wear confortable walking shoes and travel as lightly as you can so you can enjoy this day to the fullest while visiting some of the most impressive sights in our Nation's capital city. (Please remove all sharp objects from pockets and purses for ease of going through any security throughout the day.) We will not be returning to our hotel until evening so be sure to bring any needed medications for the day. We then meet our guide and begin touring with arrival at the Arlington National Cemetery. No land in America is more sacred than this square mile - it is America's shrine to valor and sacrifice. This is the final resting place for President John F Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and thousands of soldiers from every major U.S. war. The Cemetery is the former plantation and home of Civil War General Robert E. Lee. There are mounuments to nearly every major sacrifice that affected our country including Space Shuttle Challenger Astronaut's Memorial and more. By afternoon, we arrive on Capitol Hill at the New Visitor's Center which welcomes visitors to the seat of the American Government. Enjoy lunch on your own here at the Capitol Visitor Center Cafeteria. The many features included an exhibition gallery that exhibits the House and Senate while in session, gift shops and lots more. We will visit the United States Capitol, (pending availability) and the Library of Congress which is the largest national library in the world with more than 650 miles of bookshelves housing more than one hundred million objects! On to the Supreme Court Building for an exterior tour only (pending time and lines). (Within the walls of this white marble monument, the third branch of government exercises its mandate to protect and interpret the spirit of the Constitution.) We hope to then enjoy a "Pink Stroll" at the Tidal Basin with photo opportunity among the Japanese Cherry Trees (pending nature's timing on blossoms which we cannot control). These trees are the 1912 gift to the city of Washington of 3,000 cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo to enhance the growing friendship between the United Sates and Japan. We are also planning to see the Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial along our way today - all with their own commemorative elements in the history of the United States of America...they are truly a symbol of our heritage. Dinner will be on your own tonight along the way before we continue our evening illuminated Monument Tour including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and the national World War II Memorial. Evening arrival back at our hotel after a very full day.
